Nutrition is about so much more than weight loss and training, it's about nourishing every cell in our bodies, for wonderful health and to reduce our risk of disease. Nutrition can seem really confusing, but there are some clear guidelines universally agreed on which should precede any diet: eat more plants, reduce your intake of animal and processed foods. 

We don't need to follow this, but it's good to have a clear understanding of nutrition and a possible aim if we wish to improve our diet.

The UK Nutrition Guidelines suggest the following diet.

A study that stands out in this area is the Blue Zones, finding commonalities between the healthiest populations in the world. One of which is that they eat plant-based diets, with or without some meat, fish and dairy. This shows that there is a wide range of healthy diets, and importantly that health is about so much more than nutrition. Although we are yet to determine the healthiest diet, a simple guide for a healthy diet is:

how healthy are you?

Using the above as a basis, I made this easy test to see how healthy our diet is, comparing the balance of whole plant foods to animal and processed foods. I collectively refer to animal and processed foods as tastys, as this more positively describes the role of these foods in our diet. I have been careful not to include negative or purist words. Remember it is never all or nothing, this is just to see where we are at.
